Northern 吴 Wu Style Tai ji Quan
While Wu Jian Quan was spreading his version of his father's art in South China, Wang Mao Zhai (1862-1940) and Guo Fen continued Quan You's tradition in Beijing. Because Wu Jian Quan modified the posture sequence and, to some extent, the individual postures themselves. It may fairly be stated that the southern Wu school is that of Wu Jian Quan, while the northern or Beijing school is that of Quan You, Wu Jian Quan's father. Wang Mao Zhai stayed in the northern part of China to continue teaching Wu Style Tai Ji Quan to more than 100 disciples at his time pried. Masters Yang Yu Ting, Wang Pei Sheng, and Li Bing Ci have taught countless students and they were highly respected and loved by martial arts community in Beijing! One of the famous martial arts masters who skilled in both internal and external martial arts, and a very important disciples of the Wu Style Tai Ji Quan, was masters Yang Yu Ting (1887-1982). Yang start to learned martial arts when he was age 9. He learned Tan Tui, Shao Lin, XIng Yi Quan, Ba Gua Zhang, and managed many different kind of weapons as well. He focused on nothing but martial arts his whole life, and he was still involved in teaching when he was 96 years of age. Wu style Tai Ji Quan in Beijing was not subject to outside influences, and so a degree of consistency was maintained in transmitting the art from teacher to student. This uniformity was vigorously encouraged by one of the style's foremost exponents - Yang Yu Ting, who was teaching actively for more than 70 years and taught many people in China. Most practitioners of Beijing Wu Style Tai Ji Quan today execute the postures very much as Yang Yu Ying did and highly respected their master.


Beijing Wu Style Tai Ji Quan school - formal "Bei Ping Tai Miao Tai Ji Quan Center" was established in 1933, located next to the Forbidden City - Culture Park until 1951, then, the school moved to Zhong Shan Park. Yang Yu Ting was the main teacher who practiced and taught more than 70 years tai ji quan in the school, and so many great martial artists studied with him. The school also gathered many famous masters of the martial arts, not limited to the art of Tai Ji Quan: Cao Youpu, Wang Youwei, Liu Wangcang, Zhao anxiang, Liu Guangdou, Li Jiangwu, and Dr. Dai Yusan - a well-known Chinese Traditional Medical Doctor who was from a classical TCM family. 岁月如歌, 太极如歌, 斯人虽去, 曲歌依然... Wang Pei Sheng (1919-2004), is one of the greatest martial art masters in Beijing, who is noted for his expertise in the self-defense applications of Wu Style Tai Ji Quan. Wang went on to succeed Yang Yu Ting as the head of the Northern Wu Style Tai Ji Quan group.

Master Li Bing Ci, (1929 - ) the martial arts brother of Wang pei Sheng. Li Bing Ci studied Wu Style Tai Ji Quan under Yang Yu Ting for 37 years, he is currently the president of Beijing Northern Wu Style Tai ji Quan Research Center and he taught thousands of students around the world.
